So, just this week, an opportunity came up fur my mom to join one of our local Dachshund Rescue Groups as a Transport Volunteer. And yesterdays, our truck, Big Red was transformed into
THE DACHSHUND TAXI
And here was her very first passenger:
He is a Beautiful Red Standard Boy that her picked up from our County Dog Shelter and transferred to a local Vet Clinic for checkup, treatments etc before he is put up for adoption by Dachshund Rescue (just like where I came from)!
The Rescue Intake Volunteer Coordinator identifies dachshunds left at City, County and Other HighKill Shelters and contacts volunteer transporters to go 'bail them out' of these places.
In fact, when da Co-ordinator furst contacted my momma about her 'First Mission', this beautiful boy had already been placed in line for "that very very very bad place" at the County Shelter.
He was a very sweet boy during the transport adventure with my momma. He was da perfect gentleman
Now here is da funny part..........................................
As part of her Transport Duties, my momma takes fotos of da Rescue Pup for the Groups website (this is NOT her strong point)................AND her gets to select the NAME fur the dog!!!
WHAT?!?!?
Do they know WHO they are asking to pick out a name fur a new dog?!?!?!
Have they talked to my new sissie-who-FINALLY-got-a-name, Pickles?!?!?!
So, depending on locations fur da Transport, my poor indecisive momma has approximately two hours to decide on a name fur da new Rescue! Sheesh!
The Rescue Group is currently using a College Theme fur dogs coming into the program..........so may I present:
Raider Red!
We wish him da best while he is at da Vet Clinic getting all checked out and "snipped". And then we wish him a new Furever Home with da Quickness!

Go Raider Red! Go Big Red! (I pawsoom this mean Big Red lives coz if'n I rememmer Big Red woz headed to that furry, furry furry bad place too...) My mom used to be in the same situashun, hasing about 2 hours from the time she posted bail fur the death row dog at the shelter, gibbed him a baf (ugh) and taked him to the V-E-T (ugh! ugh!) to come up with a name. So here do be wot she did. Whenefur she would hear a name wot she thought she mite use down the road fur a rescue, she would write it on a piece of paper in her purse. That way she had a listie of names on her pawson at all times and would consult her listie fur naming the rescues on the spot. So furget the Santa listie, your mom needs a dog name listie!
As a transporter for Basset Rescue, your Mommy is going to love this new job of hers. We have been doing it for almost 3 years and the joy that it brings is amazing. These poor fur-babies, are so happy and forgiving. We normally have ours in the car for about 2 hours as well. Just long enough to love them, but not quite long enough to fall head over heals that I need to keep them all. :) I have yet to fail on a transport, but not saying it won't happen. Welcome to the Transporting business and you will not be disappointed. We wish Raider Red the best in finding his fur-ever home. If you want check out our blog and read some of the stories of our basset transports. :) The HoundDogs and HoundDogMom
Yeah for your Mom. Our Mom and Dad do transports, too. They've met some really neat dogs on their way to forever homes. It's a good feeling to help out homeless pets who need a little help getting ready for their new lives.

Yay for your mom, MinnaK. He is a very handsome fellow!
(Our mom is teaching a class at USC where the mascot is Tommy Trojan -- hahahaha Mom said trojan hahaha.) So maybe one of your guys could be Tommy; or maybe Tommii like Miss Ronnii. Have fun!!
Awesome!!! Mom would like to do the transport thing but right now Dad is a little 'high-maintenance' and needs her around (hopefully this will change in the next couple of months..). Pickles... Heehee. Raider Red definitely got the better end of the name-game! ;-)

Beth likes to name EVERYTHING too! Great name and I hope Raider Red finds a loving forever home very soon!
Yahoo!!! your Mom took the big step. My Mommy was so scared the first time she picked up a doggie from a shelter and transported it. Mommy loved being able to pick the pups name. Her first she named Wee Willie but he wasn't little. He was long and stout but it took and the lady that adopted him thanks Mommy everytime we see them at a dachshund event for rescueing her boy. That's what makes it all worth while to see a happy pup and their pawrents.
Merry Christmas.....Mona & Mommy too!!
